Rio's cultural warriors are back with a brand new show accentuating the positive. Following a successful year performing across India, China, United States and Europe, AfroReggae returns to the Barbican with an explosion of percussion. Hip-Hop and reggae rhythms from the heart of the favela fuse with the deep funk sounds of James Brown, providing a pulsating peripheral vision that sees art where others see no solution.

AfroReggae: Favelisation will feature sounds and images from young performers in East London, inspired by AfroReggae.

‘The audience are out of their seats and dancing... dazzling.’ The Independent

‘AfroReggae are a Brazilian phenomenon.’ The Guardian

‘AfroReggae is an exemplary organization. I was moved to find out that their attempt at something musical was a reply to the tragedy that left blood all over Vigário Geral. And I was honoured to be invited to be their godfather. They are a lesson. Of resistance to the disfavoured. And of determination for groups that, just like them, seek to reply to misery with creativity. A lesson in music, to all of us.’ Caetano Veloso

‘AfroReggae aren't a band, they are a force; and one to be reckoned with.’
Evening Standard
